Funerals

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 8:37-39)

As we encounter the realities of the end of life - either the deaths of our loved ones or own deaths - we lean into the promises of the empty tomb on Easter. We at OSLC are here to support you wherever you are, as you approach end of life, as you walk with loved ones as they near the end of their life, and as you grieve the loss of your loved ones.

Some people like to pre-plan their funerals (even well before their deaths) to ensure that their wishes are known. If you have a funeral plan, ensure that we have a copy in the office and that your loved ones have a copy. If you do not have a plan and wish to put one together, Pastor Alex is more than willing to walk with you through that.

Funerals do take precedence for us, as we know that so often they are not planned. Contact Pastor Alex as soon as you are able following the death of your loved one. We will work with your chosen funeral home, and we will schedule the use of our facilities. We hope to make the process as simple and as smooth as possible.

If you or your loved one will be buried at one of our cemeteries, please familiarize yourself with our cemeteries and the polices, which can be found here: Cemeteries page. Pastor Alex will work with our Cemetery committee in arranging for burial.

Pastor Alex can be reached by email and by phone: 757-561-0272. Or by calling our main office: 757-564-3745.

Fees for funerals can be found here: Property Usage Fee. If you are experiencing financial difficulties, please let us know, and we will see what we can do to assist with the cost.

Our Use of Facilities Policies do apply for funerals. They can be found here: Use of Facilities Informational Document and Policies and Procedures

As a starting point, here is a document with possible readings and hymns for a funeral service: Recommended Propers and Hymns for a Funeral.
